About the project

The planned project Workplace Innovation for SMEs (WIN4SMEs) will create Centeres of vocational excellence in seven countries.

It is set to answer the recommendations and findings of the report by the EC European Innovation Council and SMEs Executive Agency from August 2022 to

  • Regional anchor projects and measures
  • Focus more strongly on the needs of SMEs
  • Focus on incentives for networking SMEs with external partners like VET and HEI institutions

WIN4SMEs will bring together vocational schools to increase the level of Workplace Innovation in edu. This unique approach focuses on the organization’s very structure, encompassing vital aspects such as human resource management, employee engagement, process streamlining, decision-making strategies, and effective handling of customer and supplier relations. Additionally, WPI promotes a conducive work environment that forms a nexus between work organization and work life, seamlessly intertwining human, organizational, and technological dimensions.

In the European Union, Small and Medium-Sized Enterprises (SMEs) form an impressive 99% of all businesses, contributing to roughly 70% of all jobs. This sector holds immense growth potential; however, it’s challenged by the need to navigate complex transformation processes and confront considerable barriers in a rapidly evolving landscape.

An escalating shortage of skilled workers and entrepreneurs is identified as a significant impediment to SMEs’ growth. This hurdle could be overcome by focusing on talent attraction and retention, achieved by creating a workspace that encourages creativity, promotes health, and stimulates innovation. Strategic measures in human resource management, organizational development, and education become essential in this regard.

Despite the concept of Workplace Innovation not being new, it remains an area rich with untapped productivity opportunities. However, the focus of many SMEs still predominantly lies on technological innovations. Recognizing the potential of Workplace Innovation could shift this perspective, unlocking latent productivity and propelling SMEs towards future success.
